Glenpool Church to Dedicate Auditorium

03/22/1995 GLENPOOL —

Faith Free Will Baptist Church will dedicate its new 610-seat auditorium during its 12th anniversary service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The dedication service will include performances by the Durbin Trio and Faith’s own musicians. The Durbins are a professional gospel singing group from Fredericktown, Mo. They are the third-generation of a family that has been singing gospel music for almost 50 years. The Durbins will give a pre-service concert that will begin at 10 a.m.

More than 1,000 friends, family and community acquaintances are expected to be on hand as the new building is dedicated Sunday. A children’s worship with `Bradini` The Magician and a teen worship with the Haynes Band and dynamic testimony from Randy Coleman also are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. The community is invited to the service at the church, 596 W. 141st St.

The third annual Community Appreciation Luncheon will be held in the church’s Family Life Center from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday. A complete meal will be furnished free to community leaders. It is the church’s way of saying thank you to the people who make Glenpool go. There is no program, just lunch. Faith Free Will Baptist Church’s first worship service was held March 6, 1983. The church met in the only available meeting room in Glenpool, which was in the Quality Inn on U.S. 75. There were 53 people in the congregation that Sunday.

Today, the church has more than 300 members. The church met for a year at the motel, then moved its services to a 6,000-square-foot building. It moved into its 8,800-square-foot Family Life Center on its seventh anniversary in March 1990. In 1991, the church added four staff positions — music director, youth director, children’s director and secretary. The church had groundbreaking ceremonies for the 15,000-square-foot, 600-seat auditorium in March 1994.
