Buddy Bookworm’s 10th Birthday Bash Set for Saturday

 05/28/1997

Children of all ages and their families are invited to attend Buddy Bookworm’s 10th birthday party from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Central Library, Fourth Street and Denver Avenue. “Buddy’s Birthday Blowout” helps kick off the Tulsa City-County Library system’s summer reading program, which began Monday and runs through Aug. 23. Buddy is the library system mascot. Children attending Buddy’s Birthday Blowout may sign up to participate in the summer reading program.

Children who participate by reading six books and visiting the library six times during the summer earn a medal of achievement featuring Buddy Bookworm, and may enter their names in a drawing for more than 60 prizes.

This year’s grand prize winner will receive a free trip for a family of four to Baltimore, Md., this fall. Birthday party participants will make their own party hat and enjoy face painting and refreshments.

Children’s films will be shown continuously in the library’s first floor preview room from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, and Tupper the Clown will make a special appearance on the second floor of the library from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

From 12:30 to 2:45 p.m., children may play party games with Caroline Johnson in the second floor story hour room. A magic show by Brad “Bradini” Evans will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Aaronson Auditorium.

Several special guests will help Buddy celebrate his birthday. Celebration Station’s Harry Hound will visit the library from 1 to 2 p.m., Tulsa Drillers’ mascot Hornsby will visit from 2 to 3 p.m. and Mother Goose will meet children from 3 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
